What if you had 3 minutes…

To talk about your son or daughter?

Early one morning I was eating breakfast with my son when he was 15 years old. While listening to our favorite Christian radio station, 91.9 WTGS, they announced Joseph was the name for The Family Name game. My son and I instantly looked at each other with excitement. I called in, got through and waited patiently to talk about my son, Joseph. I could hardly wait, I was busting out of the seams. Joseph had to leave for his carpool but I gave him a kiss good-bye and continued to wait. The DJ’s finally took my call and asked me to talk about Joseph. I told them how proud I was of Joseph, he attends a christian high school (DeMatha Catholic High School) that he played sports (football and lacrosse) and volunteered for the homeless (S.O.M.E.). I was beaming through the phone, then I started to tear up. Why? As much as I love Joseph and how proud I am for him, I just want him to be a good man in the end. The DJ’s were so kind to listen, to be so kind to me. At the end of our phone call I was told we won the Chick Filet dinner out, so awesome.

I got to thinking, do our children or loved ones truly know what we would say if we had 2-3 minutes. And if in your heart you didn’t have anything special to say about your daughter or son, why not? I sometimes find myself at a store listening in shock to parents scream at their children, it breaks my heart. If our children don’t feel or see our love for them, how will they ever love themselves. Take time to be patient and love your child/children. You’ll be amazed with the results, I promise.

When Joseph got home from school he mentioned that he and everyone in the car heard what I said on the radio station. Joseph smiled at me and told me thank you and that he loved me, that is all I needed to hear.

Have an awesome day!

Love thy Neighbor…

As you love yourself. We have heard this over and over again, I can’t tell you how many times but it is a lot. Easy enough, right!?

Well, not really and not for a lot of us. First, we must raise up children who truly understand the definition of love by God. Then we must show these children by our
example what is looks like when we truly loves ourselves to give it as a gift to others. God created love in all of us but we are so quick to abundantly love the world’s view of love and not His.

I am not surprised that so many people find it so difficult to love themselves. Most can’t stop the self hatred that comes from comparing themselves to others, instead of being grateful for who God made them to be. We were all created in His image what better way to see ourselves, right!?

Let’s all vow to God today that we are going to start to love ourselves today, even the ugly parts that we convinced ourselves exist. We will wipe away all the mean things that have been spoken over us by the enemy. And finally, let us appreciate ourselves where we are today and celebrate in anticipation of being better with every tomorrow.

Can’t we all just get…

Happy? I know that is easy for some of us but not for most of us. We tend to let the past cripple us or the busyness of today overwhelm us. Does anyone think this is fair, right or just? Certainly it’s easier said than done to make the necessary changes in our lives to make it happy. And in order to do that we must ask ourselves, what is happy, how do I define happy and what does happy look like?

Let me help you with all 3 of those very good questions. Happiness is an overwhelming feeling of joy. Happiness is defined by Webster Dictionary as feeling pleasure and enjoyment because of your life, situation, etc. Happiness should always be defined as a state of mind that makes you smile on the inside and out. There you have it, 3 great questions about being happy, 3 great answers to start you off to get started with your journey to happy.

I am asked almost every day, how are you so happy. I first tell them Jesus but I also tell them I am grateful. It’s important to be humble, grateful and love Jesus. Blessings are all around us but so many of us want to focus on the negative and ugliness of life instead of seeing the beauty. I instantly pray for those who are suffering from hardened hearts, high anxiety and love lost. I even pray for my enemies and so should you. I am here for you, message me if you need to get started on your happy.

My relationship with Food…

Started when I was very young and eager to learn while watching my Grandma Miles, my Mother and Father. I ultimately learned to cook and bake because my Mother and Father are amazing Chef’s, Bakers and my Father is also a Pit Master. It’s no wonder I enjoy food, love baking and get satisfaction from creating new dishes for me, my Son/Family and friends. Cooking is such an important part of growing up, my Son was taught at 3 years old to cook a lobster. And that began his love for cooking as well. Now 20 years old, he enjoys cooking fresh, delicious meals for me and himself.

I believe it’s important to teach our children to cook so they can have more control over their health. It’s easy to show a child to push a button on a microwave and open a box, cut slits in the plastic but what are we really teaching them. Let me share with you what we are teaching them: eat alone, sub par ingredients, sub par nutrition and that cooking comes from opening a box to put it into another box.

Let’s slow down and get back to basics. We plan our days and nights, so why not take time to cook a nutritious meal for and with our family more often than not. Let’s take time to teach our children the importance of eating healthy, learning to cook and spending time doing both. And if you don’t know where or how to start, message me and I will help you. If I can do it, so can you…I promise!

My big move to Texas…

Eleven years ago while on a business trip in Frisco, Texas the Lord laid on my heart that I needed to be in Texas. The request was clear as day but I couldn’t go. Well, I could have left but I know I wasn’t suppose to leave just yet. Then 10 years later while I was at home I received a phone call from my Mother stating she would be selling the home that I called home for the last 10 years after my divorce. The home that I raised my Son in, the home I started a ministry in, the home we rescued a dog in, the home that would change my life forever. Yes, that home. I told my Mother that I understand, it was fine; no worries.

Then it all started to make sense, we hired a photographer to take our Christmas picture. As the photographer was leaving he mentioned that he might be moving to Texas. My instant reply was, “Omygosh, that is where I want to live!”  In March my job ended. My Son was no longer 9 but 19 and I suddenly realized I could finally start to move to Texas, maybe!?

I prayed to God, to send me Texas signs and He did. I was at the grocery store, a man was wearing a TCU shirt. I was at bible study, the woman sitting next to me was from Texas. More and more signs would pour in over the next several weeks confirming what was always His plan for me. Then I asked and prayed to God for another favor,”God if you really want me to move to Texas, please sell my stuff.” And boy did He ever, I couldn’t sell my items fast enough, it was absolutely amazing. I was meeting 5 to 10 people a day to meet and pick up items they were purchasing from me, it was beautiful. And in the process, I got to share my story about God to almost everyone I met.

First blog post

Hello great big world out there… I am so excited to officially start my latest blog about Friendship, Finance, Faith, Fitness and Fashion. My whole life I have enjoyed helping others, making people laugh and encouraging them to live a better life. Living a life fulfilled, a life worth living with a positive perspective. I pray you can personally take something away from my blog on a daily basis that makes your life better.

Let me tell you a little, no a lot, about me. I am the daughter of the most high God, I am a single Mother with a Son who I absolutely love and adore. I spent most of my life growing up in Maryland but have also lived in Virginia, where I had the honor of being crowned Mrs. Virginia 2003.  And now by God’s persuasion I live in the big, beautiful state of Texas. I am an animal lover, my Son and I rescued a Giant Schnauzer in Washington, D.C.. Bentley is one of the best things that has ever happened to us.

I enjoy having fitness in my life, it makes me happy and who doesn’t love a good sweat. I also enjoy eating healthy and like sharing all the great recipes I have found to help me and others look and feel better. I have my weak moments with food but making the right choices for my body in the end enables me to feel awesome.

My love for fashion was instilled into my DNA by two people; my beautiful Mother and my Grandma Leola who passed away before I was born. However, knowing that Leola made clothing and owned her own dress shop confirms my good eye for fashion. I began modeling as a child and also worked behind the scenes in fashion retail. I have walked the runway. I have appeared on the pages of Vogue and Redbook magazine and even had the blessing of being on “What Not To Wear: Wannabe”.  My experience runs deep with fashion, I am excited to share my expertise and great tips.

I love deals, to me it’s the thrill of the hunt and the find. And I try my best to make my dollar go further. I would enjoy helping you cut corners and making your dollar go further too.

There are so many layers of me that genuinely want to help you. So, let the blogging begin…
